Why did the client need our services?
Our customer contacted us because they needed to remove and dispose of a prefabricated concrete shed in their garden in Reading. The structure included an asbestos cement roof. They wanted the base to be left intact so they could use it for a new outbuilding.
Asbestos is frequently found in sheds and garages built in the 1970s and 80s. Asbestos was loved because it was cheap, strong and resistant to chemicals and fire. However, over time the material can degrade and become hazardous because fibres can be released.
Asbestos fibres are invisible to the naked eye, and when inhaled, they cause a number of diseases such as asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma. Asbestos is typically found in the roofing panels in garages and sheds but can also be in wall panels, doors, and guttering.
The team at Goodbye Asbestos has been completing asbestos shed and garage removals since our inception in 1998. We can remove most structures in as little as one working day. Our team will efficiently and safely remove all hazardous and non-hazardous waste from your site and disconnect any electricity and water supplies before work begins. The shed’s dimensions were 262cm x 257cm x 201cm, and we carefully planned the work, including completing risk assessments.
If customers just require an asbestos garage and shed roof removal, we can remove the roof and supply and install replacement roofs.
As Environment Agency-licensed waste carriers, we are licensed to safely transport asbestos under the upper-tier waste carrier requirements.
What work was carried out?
Our asbestos removers always wear the necessary PPE and respiratory equipment to ensure we are safe throughout any removal. For this project, we removed and lowered the asbestos cement roof to the ground, ensuring they remained intact for Health and Safety.
The sheets were wrapped and disposed of at a licensed waste site. Our team then demolished the remaining concrete structure down to slab level. We then provided the paperwork for our client. This confirmed the cleanliness of the work area after the removal had been carried out.
Were there any challenges?
The structure was built very close to the fence and outbuilding. The customer wanted to ensure these remained in place without damage. Therefore, our asbestos removal specialists needed to be careful, ensuring no excessive force was used.
What did the clients think of the results?
The customer was very happy with our work. They said:
Goodbye Asbestos were very professional, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. They were punctual and arrived when they agreed to. My garden was left clean and tidy. And all the necessary paperwork was provided. Great overall service.
